Welcome to Beamish Primary School

Welcome to our wonderful school and thank you for visiting our website. My name is Mrs Telfer, and I am extremely proud to be the Executive Headteacher of the Beamish & Pelton Federation.
Beamish Primary School is located in the small village of No Place near the town of Stanley and is approximately 7 miles from the historic city of Durham. The school is a smaller than average primary school with a nursery offering 15- and 30-hour places for 2, 3 and 4-year-old pupils.

Being with others, sharing and taking turns with toys, and talking to children about how they are feeling and why makes a big difference at school.
This week, talk about kind behaviours like sharing, turn-taking, and using friendly words. Practise saying “hello” or starting conversations in play – it builds confidence.

Can your child:
• Take part in imaginative play (e.g. role play)?
• Draw, paint, colour and stick?
• Share story books with caregivers, look at pictures and talk about the characters?
• Explore the world around them (e.g. looking closely at the natural world or playing safely with objects at home)?
Sharing books at home builds language and imagination.
This week, cuddle up with a favourite story, talk about what might happen next, or retell it in your own words. Encourage your child to choose books and tell you the story using the pictures!

Can your child independently:
• Put on / take off their coat and shoes?
• Use the toilet and wash their hands?
• Get dressed with little help, e.g. after using the toilet or doing PE?
• Use cutlery (e.g. fork and spoon, chopsticks) and drink from an open cup?
• Spend time away from you, learning they can be looked after by caring adults?
Mastering simple skills build confidence and make school feel less overwhelming. 1 Likes

There are some clips of us from minute six to minute seven. Enjoy!
Yesterday we met Amy and her colleagues who are busy planning and organising the allotment, we then planted some marigold seeds and popped them in our cold frame and finally we met with some of the staff from The Banks Group who have kindly sponsored this project for Beamish.
We had a fab morning and we’re all excited about growing our own in 2026! 4 Likes
