Earth & Mars Class - EYFS
Welcome to Earth and Mars Class, we are a mixed aged class of Nursery and Reception children.
Our teacher is Mrs Howells and our teaching assistant is Mrs Charlton.
We have lots of fun while learning through play! We have a stimulating, fun and educational environment where we play, explore and investigate through various forms.
Our Curriculum
We cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.
Please view the Early Years section of our website for further details of our learning.
Class Information and Homework
PE Lessons
We have one 'Movement' session each week.
Children take part in these sessions wearing their usual school uniform so there is no need to get changed.
Phonics
Nursery children begin their phonics journey through focused phase 1 phonics teaching. This fundamental stage is focused around developing children’s early speaking and listening skills and helps to lay to foundations as children progress onto our Read Write Inc Programme in Summer Term.
Autumn/Spring Terms:
Nursery focus on Phase 1 Phonics teaching all 7 aspects to ensure children can listen, rhyme and orally blend.
Summer Term:
Once children’s auditory skills are secure, Nursery begin to introduce the first Read, Write, Inc ‘Set 1” picture cards.
In Reception, we teach phonics daily using Read, Write Inc Phonics. Every day, the children will have a range of opportunities to practise the sounds in school. These will also be sent home.
Reading
At Beamish Primary School, we aim to foster a love of reading and to increase exposure to different types of texts. Through regular reading, we aim to practise the new sounds which are taught daily in phonics, and to apply this to their reading.
There are also 'real' books for children to explore in different areas of the classroom and we re-read our core collection over and over so that we can become confident story-tellers!
Maths
In Nursery, maths is taught through practical hands-on learning experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom. Planned experiences are taught in line with the White Rose Maths blocks, but are adapted to meet the needs of our pupils/cohort.
Children in Reception are encouraged to use Numbots online programme at home with a weekly target of around 30 minutes per week, to build speed, accuracy and confidence.
