Jupiter Class - Year 4/5/6

Welcome to Jupiter Class - Our class teacher is Miss Smith and our teaching assistants are Mrs Edgell, Mrs Harrison and Miss Monaghan.

Our Curriculum

We cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.

The Nest

Some children in our class also access 'The Nest', which is an inclusive, self-funded SEMH SEND base supporting children with complex needs, who may find the mainstream classroom overwhelming. The Nest classroom is equipped with visual aids, quiet zones, and sensory friendly resources. This means anxiety is reduced and focus is supported.

Class Information and Homework

 PE Lessons

Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in school and it is named.

Swimming Lessons

All of our children in Jupiter Class attend weekly swimming lessons. A full kit is required each week. Long hair should be tied up securely, or a swimming cap can be worn. Jewellery must not be worn.

Jupiter Class swim every Friday from September to February half term.

Reading

At Beamish Primary School, we aim to foster a love of reading and to increase exposure to different types of texts. Through regular reading, we aim to develop our fluency and comprehension of the texts.

Children will bring home a reading book home everyday and are expected to read to an adult 4 times a week.  Children should bring their reading book to school every day.

Spelling

We teach spelling using Spelling Shed.

Spelling will be introduced every Monday and revisited across the week in lessons.  Children will bring home up to 10 spellings each Monday and will be tested on these every Friday.

Maths

Children are encouraged to use Times Tables Rock Stars regularly at home with a weekly target of around 20 minutes to build speed, accuracy and confidence.

Written Homework

Homework is handed out each Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday.
